Frequently Asked Questions

Will one SUPERBIRD Paint Restoration System set be enough for me to use on the exterior paint of my entire airplane?

We have found that, in most cases, one (1) complete/new set of the SUPERBIRD Paint Restoration System is sufficient to clean the entire painted exterior of popular airplanes such as the Cessna 150/152/172/177 series and Piper Cherokee (PA 28) – popular “average-size” two- and four-seat general aviation aircraft.

However, depending on your aircraft’s age/condition of the paint, you may find that the surface requires the use of more SUPERBIRD product in certain steps of the process than others. For example, in our own in-house testing, we found on a few occasions that we sometimes used more of the Step #2 product – SUPERBIRD Paint Cleaner – as the paint seemed to “soak up” more product than expected when applied to the painted surfaces. This is no cause for alarm.

If you do require additional product, you don’t have to buy a whole new set of the entire Paint Restoration System as you can purchase individual bottles from Amazon (free two-day shipping in the U.S. for Amazon Prime members) and from the SUPERBIRD website at http://www.superbirdclean.com (free shipping in the U.S.).

I have a fabric-covered airplane. Can I use the SUPERBIRD Paint Restoration System process to improve the paint appearance of my airplane?

No. The SUPERBIRD Paint Restoration System products have been engineered for use on painted metal/aluminum/fiberglass/composite surfaces – they are NOT approved for use on fabric-covered aircraft surfaces.

Do I have to hire an aircraft detailing professional to apply the SUPERBIRD Paint Restoration System to my own aircraft?

No. The SUPERBIRD Paint Restoration System has been engineered for ease of use so that essentially anybody can do it. Step #1 - the Dirt, Grime & Black Streak Remover product - is simply sprayed on then wiped off, while the subsequent three steps can be applied by hand using a clean, high-quality microfiber towel or with a high-quality orbital polishing machine with the proper SUPERBIRD foam pad for each step, then just wipe away.

I’ve never used an orbital polishing machine before. Can an inexperienced person such as myself use an orbital polishing machine for the first time with the SUPERBIRD Paint Restoration System?

Absolutely! There is no need to feel intimidated by using an orbital polishing machine for the first time for applying the SUPERBIRD Paint Restoration System – it’s really a simple process for first-time users.

We recommend that you use a high-quality orbital polishing machine such as the model available for sale from the SUPERBIRD website (http://www.superbirdclean.com/products/hi-buff-deluxe-random-orbital-polisher) as this high-quality machine features six distinct speed settings, allowing first-time users or experienced, professional detailers to select a slower or faster speed setting that they are most comfortable with, allowing the user to operate the tool to best suit their own skill/comfort level.

How do I apply the SUPERBIRD Paint Restoration System to my aircraft using an orbital polishing machine?

Always follow the directions – both those listed on each bottle as well as the included instructional pamphlet - that accompanies each Paint Restoration System kit.

The key things when using an orbital polisher with the Paint Restoration System are:

  • Use a high-quality orbital polisher, such as the one we sell on the SUPERBIRD website.
  • Use the proper Paint Restoration System product for each step of the process.
  • Double check to make sure you use the proper SUPERBIRD foam pad for a given step of the process before commencing operation.
  • Be sure to apply the proper amount of product for each step, per the instructions.
  • Use a slow back-and-forth and up-and-down motion when moving the orbital polisher across the aircraft’s painted surface.
  • DO NOT press down/put any weight or pressure on the orbital polisher – just let the machine do all the work under its own weight.
